BACOLOD CITY - A college student died while his girlfriend was wounded after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a sedan at Purok Guillena, Barangay Taloc, Bago City, Negros Occidental on Monday, Dec. 19.
The fatality was identified as Art Vergil Murillo, 20, of Barangay Taloc while his girlfriend, identified as Mel Rose Salgado, 24, of Pontevedra town, was wounded.
Staff Sgt. Ronald Javier, traffic investigator of Bago City Police Station, said that Murillo’s motorcycle collided with a sedan which was making a u-turn.
Javier said the motorcycle was believed to be speeding as manifested by the impact.
The couple suffered fractures and were brought to a hospital. However, Murillo, who was transferred to a private hospital here, later passed away.
Javier said the driver of the sedan, a 49-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW), was released from police custody on Tuesday, Dec. 20, after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary detention.
Javier said that the two parties are scheduled to meet on Thursday, Dec. 22.
