Paskong Mapúan 2022 promotes the spirit of community and volunteerism

Mapúa University demonstrated its spirit of volunteerism and community involvement during the culmination of Paskong Mapúan 2022 at its Intramuros campus. Aptly themed "Tayo ang biyaya sa kapwa," the university-wide celebration highlighted the impact of the educational institution's civic engagement towards community development. 

The month-long festivity began with a symbolic tree lighting ceremony and the launch of the student-led Christmas Village. These were followed by a thanksgiving concert that featured homegrown talents from Mapúa Circle of Performing Arts and a Palarong Pinoy and Caroling Competition. The fête concluded with a grand street party involving local vendors in the community and a kiddie party for street children. 

On top of these activities, the annual Christmas event enabled Mapúans to celebrate the positive results of their year-round community programs. It also fostered greater participation and appreciation for social responsibility. 

"Aside from technical expertise, community involvement showcases more of the humanitarian side of being a Mapúan. It gives relevance to finding solutions to address community needs. The application of the acquired knowledge to address community needs gives a different perspective in students learning," said Joyrence Agas, head of Mapúa's Office for Social Orientation and Community Involvement Programs.

Despite the ongoing pandemic, the institution has remained at the forefront of community development. The technological and engineering school spearheaded projects that addressed essential needs covered by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). 

These included creating and installing water purifying facilities in disadvantaged communities, providing affordable and clean energy through solar-powered lamps in remote, mountainous areas, and continuous access to quality education via training seminars and lectures. 

Mapúa emphasizes empowerment and community involvement by training students with the knowledge, capacity, and heart to bring about positive transformational change in industries and communities.

The university complements its internationally recognized curriculum and teaching methodologies with extracurricular activities that enhance students' character development and individual interests.
