DOH logs 626 new cases of Covid-19

The Department of Health (DOH) logged 626 new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Based on the DOH Covid-19 tracker, the new infections brought the nationwide tally of active cases to 17,263.

The regions with the most recorded cases in the past two weeks were the National Capital Region with 5,615 cases, followed by Calabarzon with 2,395; Central Luzon with 1,142; Western Visayas with 653; and Cagayan Valley with 619.

Since 2020, the DOH has already logged a total of 4,057,629 confirmed cases of Covid-19.

The cumulative tally includes 3,975,239 recoveries and 65,127 fatalities, the DOH said.

Meanwhile, the DOH also reported 121 more cases of Omicron and its subvariants.

Of the total, 23 were classified as BA.2.3.20, one as BA.5, 28 as XBB, 45 as XBC, and 24 as other omicron subvariants.

This report was based on the positive samples that were sequenced by the University of the Philippines - Philippine Genome Center last Dec. 14 to 15, 2022.
