CAMP DANGWA, Benguet – Police arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly transporting suspected marijuana worth over P5 million in Pasil, Kalinga on Thursday, Dec. 1.
Brig. Gen. Mafelino Bazar, Police Regional Office-Cordillera director, identified the suspect as Albert Borway Dugwawi, a resident of Barangay Agbannawag, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
Bazar said police received information that an individual will transport marijuana products from Tinglayan, Kalinga to Tabuk City on Wednesday, Nov. 30, and mounted a checkpoint in Sitio Dinacan, Barangay Dangoy, Lubuagan, Kalinga.
However, the suspect, who was driving a Toyota Rush vehicle with license plates NFV-9982, evaded the checkpoint and sped off towards the direction of Pasil.
The vehicle was abandoned on the Pasil-Balbalan Road and yielded 10 bricks of dried marijuana leaves and stalks with fruiting tops weighing a total of 10 kilos with a standard drug price of P1.2 million; three tubular form of dried marijuana leaves and stalks with an estimated weight of three kilos valued at P360,000, and 18 rectangular-shaped dried marijuana leaves and stalks weighing 35 kilos grams with an SDP of P4.2 million.
Also recovered was a yellow plastic bag containing an official receipt and Certificate of Registration under a woman from Makati City.
Police mounted a hot-pursuit operation and arrested the suspect on Friday in Pasil.
Dugwawi faces drug-related charges. Pieces of evidence are in the custody of the Pasil police.
