ILOILO CITY – A student of St. Joseph School Iloilo won two medals in the Asian Science and Mathematics Olympiad for Primary and Secondary Schools in Bali, Indonesia recently.

Gihun Ng Yoo, a Grade 8 student, was part of a 14-member Philippine team that placed second runner-up in the team category-exploration round of the ASMOPSS 12.
“It was an honor (to compete) for the country,” Yoo told members of the Iloilo media.
Yoo also won a bronze medal in the individual category in the theoretical round of primary math.
He competed against students from Indonesia, Tajikistan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Math teacher and coach Irish Mae Palomo said Yoo was the only member of the national team from Iloilo.
ASMOPPSS 12 resumed face-to-face competition this year after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
Yoo is a member of the Asian MathSci League Inc.
Dr. Pamela Ng Yoo, mother, said that he has always been fascinated with numbers since he was young.
