Work in gov't, classes in Albay suspended due to inclement weather


LEGAZPI CITY, Albay -- Work in government offices and classes on all levels in the province of Albay were suspended on Monday, Dec. 19, due to heavy rains brought by the shear line, trough of low-pressure area (LPA), and northeast monsoon or "amihan."

Gov. Edcel Greco Lagman issued an advisory on Monday morning that work in government offices in the province are suspended except those agencies whose functions are related to public safety, disaster risk reduction, health, and related services.

Suspension of work in private establishments or offices will be at the discretion of their respective heads, the advisory stated.

For schools that are not yet on Christmas break, classes and school activities on all levels were also suspended.

Meanwhile, according to Gremil Naz, spokesperson of the Office the Civil Defense (OCD)-Bicol, as of Monday morning, Albay and the provinces of Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur have suspended classes and work.

"Collating data and we only have information from Operation Center (OPCEN) Albay, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur. In Camarines Sur, classes are suspended on all levels. In Camarines Norte, work and class suspension effective 12 noon today," Naz told the Manila Bulletin.

As of 6 a.m. on Monday, 122 families or 395 individuals in the towns of Calabanga, Lagonoy, and Tinambac in Camarines Sur were evacuated due to flooding.

A total of 10 municipalities reported flooding incidents -- nine from Camarines Sur and one in Camarines Norte.

A landslide incident was reported in Capalonga town in Camarines Norte.
