WINNERS ALL: Stars who earned int’l recognition in 2022


Several Filipino actors and actresses carved a huge mark this year, earning recognition abroad doing excellent work.

Among them is young actor Vince Rillon, who was named best actor at the 19th Asian Film Festival in Rome, Italy last April, for his performance in Brillante Mendoza’s “Resbak.”

Then there’s former beauty queen Kylie Verzosa, who was named best actress at this year’s Distinctive International Arab Festival Awards (DIAFA) for her work in “The Housemaid.”

Senators, as led by Sens. Bong Revilla Jr. and Lito Lapid, commended Kylie for the feat.

Actor Sean Guzman took home two best actor trophies for his performance in Joel Lamangan’s “Fall Guy.”

The first was from the CHITHIRAM International Film Festival in India. It was followed by another win at the Anatolian Film Awards in Turkey.

Coleen Garcia was named best actress at the El Grito International Fantastic Film Festival in Venezuela for “Kaluskos.”

Multi-awarded film director Lav Diaz added another feather to his cap winning the Special Jury Prize at the 53rd International Film Festival for “Kapag Wala Nang Mga Alon.”

Just recently, Jodi Sta. Maria was named best actress at the Asian Academy Awards, this, for her outstanding portrayal of a vengeful wife in “The Broken Marriage Vow,” a local adaptation of “Doctor Foster.”

Finally, Dolly de Leon.

The actress was awarded the best supporting performance trophy at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards for her performance in Ruben Ostlund’s “Triangle of Sadness.”
