The COVID-19 positivity rate continues to decrease in Metro Manila--which may mean that the Omicron subvariant BQ.1 wave is already “receding” in the region, OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said.

In an update posted on social media on Sunday, Dec. 18, David said the Covid-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila was down from 14.4 percent on Dec. 10, to 13.9 percent on Dec. 17.

“It looks like the BQ.1 wave is receding in time for a happy holiday,” he said.

However, OCTA observed that positivity rates have increased in Bataan (from 8.7 percent to 13.8 percent), Zambales (from 11.7 percent to 14.4 percent), and Laguna (from 16.7 percent to 19 percent).

The positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from those who were tested for Covid-19.

The WHO recommended that the positivity rate should remain at 5 percent or less to show that the spread of the virus is under control.
