A total of 279 policemen were dismissed from the service since the assumption of President "Bongbong" Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., the Philippine National Police (PNP) disclosed on Monday, Dec. 19.
PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr, said those kicked out of the police service were found guilty of serious violation of the law and other police rules and regulations.
Citing PNP data, Azurin said the 279 dismissed policemen were among the 1,211 PNP investigated and sanctioned from July 1 to Dec. 7 this year.
Those penalized include 79 cops who were demoted, 472 who were suspended and 381 who were punished with orfeiture of salary, reprimand, restriction and withholding of privileges.
“The PNP will never tolerate any irregularity and breach of discipline in the police service. We will always be steadfast in our thrust to discipline our personnel while we value each and everyone’s welfare while serving the Filipino people,” Azurin said.
Azurin earlier vowed to continue the internal cleansing in the PNP, with the Internal Affairs Service and the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group.
