Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie "WES" Gatchalian announced on Saturday, Dec. 17, that single motorcycles will be allowed to pass through the city’s bike lane starting Dec. 25.

Under City Ordinance No. 1064, Series of 2022, single motorcycles are authorized to utilize the bike lane along McArthur Highway from Monday to Friday.

"Ito po malamang ay Christmas gift na rin natin sa ating mga motorists. Papayagan na pong dumaan ang mga single motorcycles natin sa designated bike lane natin sa McArthur Highway (This is probably our Christmas gift to our motorists. Single motorcycles will be allowed to pass through our designated bike lane along McArthur Highway)," Gatchalian said.

He also reminded the motorcyclists of the 20-kilometer-per-hour speed limit.

No tricycle drivers will be allowed to pass through the bike lanes, he added.

The city government said the ordinance seeks to ease traffic congestion amid holiday season.

The 6.7-kilometer stretch from Barangay Marulas to Barangay Mandalay was officially opened to the public last Jan. 3, 2022, as part of the city's “human-centered” infrastructure advocacy and prioritize pedestrians, and bike lanes in the city.
