Bong Go to PNP: Sustain efforts vs illegal drugs, criminality
The Philippine National Police (PNP) and other law enforcement agencies should keep up the fight against illegal drugs in order to reduce criminality and corruption within communities, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said.
Citing the gains from former president Rodrigo Duterte’s campaign against illegal drugs, criminality and corruption, Go reiterated his call for increased efforts to fight illegal drugs, crime and corruption by drawing attention to the interconneected nature of these issues.
“Dahil kapag bumalik ang iligal na droga, babalik po ang korapsyon sa gobyerno, babalik po ang kriminalidad. Definitely, it follows... nabibili po ang iba kapag nandiyan na po ang iligal na droga (Because when illegal drugs return, corruption in the government will return, criminality will return. Definitely, it follows... others can be bought when the illegal drugs are there),” said Go, chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography.
“Kaya nakakatakot po kapag bumalik ang iligal na droga. Sana po ‘wag pong bumalik... agapan natin na ‘wag bumalik ang iligal na droga (That's why it's scary when illegal drugs come back. I hope it doesn't come back... let's make sure that illegal drugs don't come back),” he added.
Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, earlier warned that drug traffickers have returned with a vengeance, now that Duterte is no longer the president.
The former PNP chief, who headed the Duterte administration’s infamous “Oplan Tokhang,” said he is particularly concerned of drug cartels and “ninja cops” returning.
Go, nevertheless, said he is confident that the administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. can continue the fight against illegal drugs, corruption and criminality.
“I'm sure si Pangulong Marcos naman po nabanggit niya na ipagpapatuloy n’ya na labanan po ang iligal na droga sa kahit anong paraan (I'm sure President Marcos mentioned that he will continue to fight against illegal drugs in any way),” said Go.
Go said one of the ways he can think of to encourage the youth to stay away from drugs is to help them get into sports.
“So I encourage them to just play basketball, let's just play volleyball to keep us healthy and fit, at the same time, keep them away from illegal vices,” said Go, who also heads the Senate sports panel.
“Wag natin sayangin ang inumpisahan ni dating pangulong Duterte na labanan ang iligal na droga (Let's not waste what former president Duterte started to fight against illegal drugs),” the senator said.
