Cloudy skies, rains prevail in N. Luzon due to ‘amihan’

The northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” is bringing cloudy skies with rains in northern Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday, Dec. 17.

The weather system, according to PAGASA Weather Specialist Daniel Villamil, is particularly affecting Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Ilocos Region, and the northern portion of Mountain Province.

Individuals residing in the said areas were warned against possible flash floods and landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains that the northeast monsoon may bring.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, on the other hand, may experience generally fair and humid weather in the next 24-hour period.

“Sa nalalabing bahagi ng ating bansa ay mas maaliwalas na panahon ang ating mararanasan. Mainit at maalinsangan at may tiyansa pa rin tayo ng pag-ulan sa hapon o gabi dulot ng thunderstorms (The rest of the country will experience a more pleasant weather. It will be warm and humid with chances of rains in the afternoon or evening due to thunderstorms),” said Villamil in a public weather forecast.

According to the expert, no tropical cyclone is expected to develop or enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in the next three to five days.
