Aboitiz Construction: Building with technology and sustainability as foundations

Published Dec 17, 2022 06:32 am

As the nation emerges out of the difficulties of the pandemic, continuing the country’s push for economic growth will be vital. There is no better way to ensure this than with projects that bring about thriving communities and an improved quality of life.

Helping these projects get from the drawing board to reality are construction firms like Aboitiz Construction. Serving as the construction arm of the Aboitiz Group, Aboitiz Construction boasts of a 47-year track record in value construction and engineering.

Like its parent company, Aboitiz Construction is fueled by the Aboitiz Group’s Great Transformation journey to become the country’s first ‘techglomerate.’ This means driving change through purposeful and innovative construction, working with clients and stakeholders at every stage of the construction business process to ensure that projects are delivered on time, safely, and with quality.

To reflect this new vision, Aboitiz Construction unveiled its new brand identity early this year. The renewed vision aims to promote economic growth and advance communities primarily by providing livelihood to Filipinos. To achieve this, Aboitiz Construction’s mission is to take its business to new heights, while remaining steadfast in its mission and rooted in its time-honored corporate values of responsibility, integrity, innovation, teamwork, and execution excellence.

INNOVATION
Integral to the shift to becoming a ‘techglomerate’ is the use of technology and innovation to improve efficiency. Aboitiz Construction is one of the first construction companies in the country that is implementing a project with all the equipment fully automated, which will ensure accuracy and efficiency of construction operations.

It recently tapped international visionary consultants, Fragile to Agile, to design the company’s digital transformation roadmap that will propel it toward becoming the top-of-mind construction company in the country.

PROJECTS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Promoting economic growth is achieved through Aboitiz Constructions' wide variety of services, from projects in light and heavy industries, infrastructure, to maintenance services.

BUILDING BETTER LOGISTICS
ACI recognizes the value of proper logistics facilities in the economy. It is currently finishing the rehabilitation of the piers 1 and 2 and threshold facilities of Mariveles Grains Corporation (MGC) located in Mariveles, Bataan. The project helps vital grains be transported more easily across the nation.

In the third quarter of the year, Aboitiz Construction finished building a 6,000 square-meter storage warehouse for La Filipina Uy Gongco Corporation in Brgy. Ingore, Lapuz, Iloilo City. The project aims to contribute to improve the logistics of world-class agricultural products throughout the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

In Iloilo City, Aboitiz Construction finished the design and construction of a 6,000 square-meter storage warehouse of agricultural products for La Filipina Uy Gongco Corporation.

Another vital project is the recently completed steel structure, mechanical, piping, insulation, painting, and fireproofing works for a petrochemical plant owned by JG Summit in Batangas City. This plant produces packaging for food and goods, allowing them to be conveniently transported and distributed.

As part of its bid to promote growth and productivity outside of Metro Manila, Aboitiz Construction has been supporting the ongoing expansion and growth of the LIMA Estate — a 794-hectare industrial-anchored area in Lipa-Malvar, Batangas. As the trusted firm of Lima Estate, Aboitiz Construction was tapped to do the site development works for the second phase of LIMA Estate’s industrial land expansion in Lipa-Malvar, Batangas. The project aims to expand LIMA Estate’s industrial lot inventory through the construction of the Block 9-2 site. Once completed, LIMA Estate’s second phase of Block 9 expansion and transformation project will accommodate new businesses in the area and generate 22,000 job opportunities.

PAVING THE WAY FOR POWER

Aboitiz Construction also hopes to energize this booming economic zone in Batangas having completed the design and construction of a 69kV overhead transmission line for LIMA Enerzone (LEZ) in Lipa City, Batangas. LIMA Enerzone is an electric distribution utility company under Aboitiz Power Corporation which operates the distribution systems of LIMA Estate. This project will provide more effective power reliability for the said business zone as it welcomes new locators in the area. The overhead transmission line project consists of 37 electric poles. The transmission lines traverse from LEZ’s first substation to the newly constructed substation of the said power distribution company.

This year, Aboitiz Construction completed the design and construction of a 69-kV overhead transmission line for LIMA Enerzone which is a power distributor of LIMA Estate in Batangas.

Aboitiz Construction has also worked on projects that put the environment first. It recently completed the site development works for the future eco-tourism site of Magspeak Nature Park, Inc. (MNPI) located in the mountainous area of the transcentral highway in Balamban, Cebu. The project covers the 630-meter road pavements, concreting sidewalks, curbs, gutters and improving the drainage system.

SUSTAINABILITY
Aboitiz Construction isn’t just focused on building, but also in reducing its impact on the environment. At construction sites itself, it has partnered with Envirotech Waste Recycling Inc. to better manage plastic waste across all its project sites nationwide.

It also helps local communities. Aboitiz Construction has partnered with Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation in the implementation of Strengthening Community Resilience through Disaster Risk Reduction Awareness and Preparedness Program for farmers of Mariveles, Bataan, fishermen of Claver, Surigao del Norte and Mariveles, Bataan, and barangay officials of two barangays in Balamban, Cebu.

As part of Aboitiz Construction’s community building activities, about 50 volunteers from the company, Local Government Units (LGUs) of Iloilo City and other volunteers from the private sector teamed up with the Iloilo City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) for a coastal clean-up drive in Barangay Sto. Niño Norte, Iloilo City.

Through the National Power Corporation, it has adopted 1.6 hectares of plantation land at Mount Makiling-Banahaw watershed area. The company partnered with Mount Malarayat Environment Protection Council (MMEPC) to plant and maintain 2,667 seedlings for three years. The partnership will provide livelihood for the members of MMEPC.

SKILLS TRAINING

Easily Aboitiz Construction’s most valuable investment is in its people, by way of skills training and vocational programs.

Aboitiz Construction recently inked a partnership with the local government of Ormoc City in Leyte and the Technical Education and Skills Development Center (TESDC) to establish job linkages and network services for technical vocational (Tech-Voc) graduates in the said area. Through this partnership, Aboitiz Construction aims to have a good source of information about potential skilled workers and match the skills of Tech-Voc graduates with the set qualifications and requirements of various construction projects of the company nationwide.

It has recently signed an agreement with Excelsior Training for Excellence, a TESDA accredited training center in Batangas, to sponsor the training and assessment program of 14 underprivileged individuals in Lipa City and Malvar, Batangas under the Shielded Metal Arc Welding II.

Aboitiz partnered with the School of Knowledge for Industrial Labor, Leadership, and Service Inc. to empower 50 Cebuanos on Scaffolding. To strengthen its skills training program, the company also partnered with School of Knowledge for Industrial Labor, Leadership, and Service Inc. (SKILLS) to train 50 Cebuanos on Scaffolding. These individuals shall potentially be hired by Aboitiz Construction for its future maintenance service projects.

A PARTNER FOR GROWTH

True to its brand promise of promoting economic growth and advancing communities, public and private organizations can count on Aboitiz Construction to build a better future. There’s no better partner than one that works responsibly, sustainably, and with synergy.
