Smart Omega Esports came out unscathed in the group stage to advance to the playoffs of the Call of Duty Mobile World Championship 2022 on Friday, Dec. 16, in Raleigh, USA.
The Filipino representatives rounded out the double-elimination group stage with a perfect 2-0 record to assure themselves at least a Top 8 finish in the crowning tournament of CODM.
Omega went off to a blistering start to their campaign, first taking down European team STMN Esports with a 3-0 sweep. The Filipinos dominated their EU counterparts with a 250:213 victory in Hardpoint in the Summit before carving a 12:10 triumph in Search and Destroy in the second map in Firing Range.
Omega then capped the series sweep with a 3:0 victory in the Control in Slums.
Riding the crest of its rousing win in its first assignment, Smart Omega then went on to clobber NA representatives NYSL Mayhem, 3-0, in the winner’s match.
The Filipinos led by as many as hundred points in the first map in Takeoff but still had to fend off a late run from the hometown bets in the closing moments to come away with a 250:243 win.
The North Americans continued to mount the pressure in Game 2 but Smart Omega made the right stops to clutch a 7:5 win in Search and Destroy in Hacienda before formally clinching their spot in the playoffs with a 3:0 win in Control in Raid.
Smart Omega will now face Brazilian team SKADE, which eliminated SEA team ALMGHTY, in the upper bracket quarterfinals on Saturday, Dec. 17.
