ILOILO CITY -- The provincial government of Iloilo has earned its fifth Seal of Good Local Governance from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
“Good governance is not an objective. It is a standard. It is a modality,” said Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. in a press conference on Friday, Dec. 16, 2022.

Defensor and Vice Governor Christine Garin received the province’s fifth SGLG during the awarding ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 15, at the Manila Hotel.
“It is our mission that the local government provides equitable distribution of its resources and opportunities through good governance,” Defensor pointed out.
Iloilo is among the 18 provinces in the country that earned the SGLG for its performance in Financial Administration and Sustainability; Disaster Preparedness; Social Protection and Sensitivity; Health Compliance and Responsiveness; Sustainable Education; Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness; Safety, Peace and Order; Environmental Management; Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture and Arts; and Youth Development.
The last time the Iloilo provincial government earned the SGLG was in 2018 during the administration of then governor Arthur Defensor Sr.
Aside from the Iloilo provincial government, nine other local government units (LGUs) also earned SGLG.
These are the LGUs of the component city of Passi as well as the towns of Anilao, Bingawan, Concepcion, Dingle, Oton, Pavia, and Zarraga.
Also joining the provincial officials and mayors were DILG-6 Regional Director Juan Jovian Ingeniero, DILG-6 Assistant Regional Director Maria Calpiza Sardua, and DILG Iloilo Provincial Director Carmelo Orbista.
