Korean military refutes post asking BTS fans not to send too many letters to Jin
The Korean Army belied an online post that asked BTS fans not to send too many letters to Jin, who enlisted in the military on Dec. .13.
Jin entered the 5th Infantry Division recruit training center in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi province to begin his 18-month military service as an active duty soldier in South Korea. He will undergo five weeks of basic military training before being assigned to a frontline unit.

When he enlisted, someone posted on The Camp, a Korean “military comfort app,” where people can send letters to enlisted soldiers.
The person, who identified himself as a 5th Infantry Division Camp room operation head, posted that one can write a comfort letter beginning on the second week after enlistment.
“As a pilot program, trainees in our unit are allowed to use mobile phones for 30 minutes a day. They will be checking the letters that arrive online individually using their mobile phones,” according to the post, Korea JoongAng Daily reported.
It added, “However, since they all use the same server for the Internet, the server will become very unstable if too many online letters arrive, making it impossible for other trainees to check their letters."
Online comfort letters are printed out and delivered to trainees at each recruit training center where family members, lovers and friends write them on The Camp app.
Korean media reported that in some boot camps where mobile phones are used on a trial basis, soldiers can check on their mobile phones but in the 5th Infantry Division, where Jin is enlisted, it is not available.
It was found out that the post was written by someone from the company that runs the app and not from military authorities.
The person apologized and wrote, “I am not a military official, and I have not received an official request from the unit. This is a post written in consideration of the special situation (where a famous celebrity is enlisted). There is no concern that the server will go down due to overload caused by receiving mail.”
Military authorities also said that it was not true that they had asked BTS fans not to send comfort letters and gifts.
Jin is the first member of BTS to start military service and he will be discharged on June 12, 2024.
