BAGUIO CITY – Seventy-one Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) have completed their rehabilitation and wellness under the Katatagan, Kalusugan, at Damayan ng Komunidad (KKDK) program of the Baguio City Jail-Male Dorm this year.
Seventeen of the 43 completers of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology’s drug rehabilitation program have been released back to the community, making their rehab more meaningful, at the end of the fourth quarter of the year.
The completers received a certificate as proof of their regeneration against illegal drugs in a simple graduation at the Baguio City Jail on Dec. 14.
"This is a jail-based rehabilitation program of the BJMP in partnership with Department of Health through the Out-Patient Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center and we have also combined the awarding with the held Inter-Agency Sportsfest, whose participants are our inmates for their wellness program that was stopped due to the pandemic," said Jail Supt. Mary Ann Tresmanio.
Tresmanio said this program will continue until there are cases of illegal drugs inside the city jail. "Our expectation for this program is to help our drug dependents to get a new life and not go back to jail."
There are 415 inmates in the male dorm and 234 or 55 percent have drug-related cases.
