Tropical storm Rosal (international name: Pakhar) has weakened into a low pressure area (LPA) and is expected to dissipate within 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, Dec. 13.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the LPA was last spotted 1,020 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon.

“This post-tropical low is forecast to dissipate within 24 hours due to the unfavorable conditions brought about by the surge of the northeast monsoon,” PAGASA said.

In the next 24 hours, the northeast monsoon or “amihan” will cause cloudy and rainy weather in Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and Apayao.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to heavy rains in these areas.

Meanwhile, Ilocos Region, and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region and Cagayan Valley will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies and light rains.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

The public is advised to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorms may also cause flash floods or landslides, especially in areas prone to these hazards.
