All's well that ends well between veteran comedian Joey de Leon and Multimedia Star Toni Gonzaga-Soriano who are teaming up for the movie "My Teacher," an entry to the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival.
But during the grand press conference for the movie held at Winford Hotel in Manila last Monday, Joey admitted he really got mad at Toni when she left "Eat Bulaga" and transferred to ABS-CBN in 2005.
"Galit ako nuong araw sa kanya noong nilayasan n'ya kami. Nagtampo ako talaga. Pero nung nalaman ko na napangasawa niya si Paul (Soriano), okay na," said De Leon. "Nagtampo talaga ako dahil baby namin ito eh."
(I was angry with her when she left 'Eat Bulaga.' I was really sullen. But when I found out that she married Paul (Soriano), it's okay.)
De Leon, one of the originals of "Eat Bulaga," also recalled the time when Toni joined the trip to Thailand.
"Tangay-tangay namin si Toni said Thailand. Bata pa ito eh. Sinama namin sa Patpong. I-research n'yo na lang yung Patpong," he said. Patpong is a popular entertainment in Bangkok.
(We took Toni to Thailand. She's still young. We took her to Patpong. Just research Patpong.)
"Baby talaga namin ito eh. So noong nawala (nagtampo ako). Selfish lang kami noon.
(She is really our baby. So when she resigned (I sulked). We were just selfish.)
"Good for her. Natutuwa ako sa kanya ngayon. Natutuwa talaga ako sa sinapit ni Celestine. Buti napangasawa mo si Paul," Joey also said.
(Good for her. I'm happy for her now. I'm glad what happened to Celestine. It's good that you married Paul.)
Toni remembered she and Paul went to Joey's house to dinner. "Pumunta kami sa bahay niya and he invited us to dinner." (We went to his house and he invited us to dinner.)
Joey said: "Hindi ko makakalimutan yun. Yung upuan nga ninyong dalawa hindi ko pinatanggal kahit nagrenovate na ako ng bahay. Pumunta talaga sila sa bahay birthday ko nun."
(I will never forget that. I didn't remove the chairs you two sat on even though I renovated the house. They actually came to my house on my birthday.)
Toni started in "EB" in 2002. But in 2005, she left the longest-running noontime program and transferred to ABS-CBN where she hosted "Pinoy Big Brother." And the rest is history.
Directed by Paul Soriano, "My Teacher" will be shown beginning Christmas Day. It is produced by TINCAN and TEN17 productions.
