DITO Telecommunity has hauled in 14 million subscribers to date and is doubling its target to 28 million in 2023, Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Adel Tamano told reporters Tuesday, Dec. 13.
Next year, the third telco player will also expand its coverage to 80 percent of the population, from the current 74 percent.
As of now, its service does not cover the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) area yet, including Sulu, Basilan and Tawi-tawi, according to Chief Technology Officer, Retired Major General Rodolfo Santiago. However, it has built a total of 6,500 towers in 2022.
DITO also seeks to lure more subscribers when it implements the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card registration this December 27.
The telco is giving out a free SIM for every SIM that will be registered plus free data to the SIM registrant, Atty. Tamano announced.
But they still have yet to decide how much free data will be given to each SIM registrant.

"We support this important initiative of the government to protect the public from phishing and similar types of fraudulent activities," he noted.
"We will do our level best to make the registration process as simple and painless as possible for new DITO subscribers and our 14 million existing customers."
