'Rosal' slightly weakens as it continues to move away from PH — PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday afternoon, Dec. 12, that tropical storm Rosal (international name: Pakhar) has weakened slightly as it continues to move away from the country.
In its latest bulletin, PAGASA said Rosal was last spotted 880 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon, and is moving east-northeastward at 15 kilometers per hour (kph).
The weather disturbance has maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gusts of up to 90 kph.
PAGASA said that Rosal no longer directly affects the country but is partly enhancing the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”
Cloudy weather with light rains may prevail over Batanes, Cagayan, Babuyan Islands, and Apayao due to the amihan.
“In the next 24 hours, the surge of the northeast monsoon partly enhanced by this tropical storm may bring occasional gusts reaching gale-force over Batanes and strong breeze to near-gale strength over Babuyan Islands, and the coastal and upland areas of Ilocos Norte, northern and eastern Cagayan, and eastern Isabela,” PAGASA added.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
The public is advised to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorms may also cause flash floods or landslides, especially in areas prone to these hazards.
