The Pasig City local government received 10 new rescue boats to assist in the calamity response operations of the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO).

Pasig City is a partner beneficiary of the Keep Hope Afloat project that raised money to buy rescue boats for donation to selected local government units (LGUs) and non-government organizations (NGOs).
The new boats were donated to help “augment the city’s capability to respond to disasters, and help equip their respective DRRM teams in rescue operations during the typhoon season.”
The project was spearheaded by the Moving Forward Together (MFT) Foundation led by Mica F. Tan, in partnership with the MFT Group of Companies Global City, and The Foundry.
The donated boats were turned over during a ceremony held at the Pasig City Hall quadrangle on Monday morning, Dec. 12.
While the new boats are under the care of the city’s DRRMO, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said some of the boats will be given to barangays in the city.
Barangays, especially those that have flood-prone areas, will have readily available and accessible rescue equipment to use in case of emergencies.
Aside from the new equipment, training facilitated by the DRRMO for the proper use of the rescue boats will be conducted next year.

Sotto commended the efforts and performance of the DRRMO, following its attainment of the Gawad KALASAG Seal of Excellence for the “Fully Compliant” Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils and Offices (LDRRMCOs) category in the National Capital Region (NCR) last Dec. 7.
Pasig is the top 6th city in NCR that was assessed and granted a high rating by the Gawad KALASAG awarding committee headed by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
With a 2.40 rating, the Pasig DRRMO was very close to receiving the award for the “Beyond Compliant” category which is given to LDRRMCOs that have 2.50 and above ratings.
“Tinitingnan namin ni Sir Bryant ‘yung mga criteria and confident po ako na next year, makukuha natin ang ‘Beyond Compliant’ (Sir Bryant and I are looking through the criteria. We are confident that we will get the ‘Beyond Compliant’ rating by 2023),” Sotto said.
Sotto also noted the consistent quality services provided by the CDRRMO.
Many local government units and organizations that conduct benchmarking activities in Pasig frequently request to meet with the DRRMO in order to learn their best practices, he added.
