GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite – Instead of receiving a gift on his birthday, a man almost lost his cell phone after falling victim to a "salisi" theft incident on Sunday, Dec. 11.
Initial investigation showed that the victim, Jerry A. Viniegra, was holding a party in Barangay Bacao I, attended by his friends and neighbors.
Amid the get-together, Viniegra left his cell phone on the table to get more beer, only to find it missing moments later.
He located his cell phone via Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking and found it pinned on the location of the suspect's residence.
Viniegra sought assistance from authorities resulting in the rest of the suspect, Ronelon C. Jaro, 51 years old.
Operatives recovered the missing cell phone with a value of P20,000 from Jaro's possession.
The suspect is now under the custody of the General Trias City Police and is facing a theft charge.
