P83-M seized illegal drugs destroyed in Cebu City

CEBU CITY â€“ The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Visayas (PDEA-7) on Monday, Dec. 12, destroyed seized illegal drugs worth more than P83 million.

The seized illegal drugs that were destroyed through the thermal facility of the Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes here included shabu worth P83.6 million, marijuana valued at P231,000, and Nubain worth P14,000.

These were used as evidence in court cases and court orders have been issued for their destruction. Some of them came from cases that have already been decided.

PDEA-7 Director Levi Ortiz said destroying seized illegal drugs once permitted by the court is to erase doubts that contraband confiscated in various operations are being recycled.

It was the second destruction of illegal drugs that the PDEA-7 conducted in the past two weeks. The PDEA-7 destroyed P250-million worth of illegal drugs in the same venue on Nov. 29.

The destroyed illegal drugs were composed of 36,953.37 grams of shabu, 372,69 grams of marijuana, 3.65 milliliters of Nubain, and 2,984 tablets of ecstasy.

The PDEA-7 has so far this year destroyed P439.95-million worth of illegal drugs. The biggest destruction happened last Nov. 29.

PDEA-7 has held 10 destructions of illegal drugs since 2017. Eight happened during the term of Ortiz who assumed his post on June 15, 2020.
