BACOLOD CITY – A Grade 11 student was allegedly raped and killed in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental over the weekend.

The victim’s body was found on a river in Sitio Morente, Barangay Cabahug, Cadiz City, on Sunday, Dec. 11.
Lt. Col. Gil John Despi, Cadiz police chief, said the 16-year-old girl was half-naked and half of her body was stuffed in a sack when she was found. She sustained 11 stab wounds in the body, he added.
Despi said the victim was last seen alive on Friday afternoon after she had practice in school.
The following day, her family reported her missing when she failed to go home on Friday night.
A 48-year-old man, who was first considered as person of interest, turned out to be a suspect in the case, after he confessed to killing the victim, according to Despi.
Prior to the suspect’s confession, Despi said they invited him to the police station on Monday, Dec. 12, after he was identified by a witness.
However, Despi said they are further probing the case to determine if there were other persons involved in the rape-slay.
Last Friday, Despi said the victim took a shortcut and passed by a secluded area on her way home.
He believed that the victim may have met the perpetrator by chance in the area or she may have been tailed.
A knife reportedly used in the incident was recovered at the crime scene.
Despi said they are waiting for the result of the post-mortem examination to determine if the victim was raped and check other possible injuries.
He said the suspect, who has yet to be identified but is known by the victim’s family, may face murder charges. Despi said the suspect probably had a hidden desire on the victim.
