Bringing of fireworks prohibited onboard ships, boats – PCG chief
Passengers of ships and boats were reminded by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Monday, Dec. 12, to refrain from bringing fireworks when they travel as this might cause them to be offloaded.

Adm. Artemio Abu, PCG Commandant, said of firework is among the prohibited items onboard ships and boats.
“Do not bring prohibited items like deadly weapons, dangerous goods, explosives. Fireworks, too. Don’t bring them when you go on a trip to ensure that your trip will be smooth-sailing,” Abu said during the welcoming ceremony for the arrival of BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301) at Port Area in Manila after a mission in Batanes.
The PCG will be placed on a heightened alert from Dec. 15, 2022 until Jan. 7, 2023 in anticipation of the influx of passengers in ports and terminals for the holiday break. Around 25,000 Coast Guard personnel will be deployed in sea ports and passenger terminals to assist passengers.
“I gave an instruction to our personnel that effective 15 December, we will be on a full heightened alert. That is in compliance with the directive of the Secretary of the Department of Transportation (Sec. Jaime Bautista) that the trips of our countrymen should be seamless,” Abu said.
Commanders of Coast Guard stations and sub-stations were also directed by Abu to coordinate with ship owners to ensure the sea worthiness of their vessels.
The PCG chief also discouraged operators of colorum sea transportation vehicles to take advantage of the holiday season and make trips as they will be strictly monitored by Coast Guard inspectors.
“The Coast Guard is very vigilant. Our people are looking into that areas where colorum sea vessels might operate,” Abu said.
