BOC shows progress of modernization during Gatchalian, Ejercito visit
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has added six additional digitalization projects as it continues to implement the modernization program as measures to improve its services and to fight corruption.
This was part of the discussion brought by BOC Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz during the visit of Senators Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian and Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito for an ocular inspection and a walk-through of its modernization program.

The visit of the two senators, along with key officials and members of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means (SCWM) and Senate Tax Study and Research Office (STSRO), is part of Senate oversight on the progress of the modernization program of the bureau.
"On this day, we open ourselves to the constructive feedback of the Senate CWM and the STSRO in hopes of further improving our facilities and reaching our goal of becoming a modernized and credible Customs Administration among the world's best," said Ruiz.
During the discussion, Ruiz said 91 percent of its processes already shifted to digital system.
Ruiz earlier acknowledged that the past BOC administration has done a lot in shifting to digital processes.
He said the move is a big leap towards lessening face-to-face transactions which are usually the cause of corruption.

Ruiz led the two senators and Senate staff to walk-throughs at the Customs Customer Care Center (CCC), X-ray Inspection Program (XIP), and the Customs Operations Center (COC).
"The prioritization of ensuring sound macroeconomic fundamentals by improving bureaucratic efficiency and ensuring sound fiscal management as well as enhancing the digital economy is the emphasis of the eight-point socioeconomic agenda of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.," said Ruiz.
He assured that the BOC will expedite implementation of digitalization projects to ensure the efficient delivery of government services and to combat corruption, smuggling, and other Customs fraud.
