Amok kills 2 village watchmen in Batangas City

BATANGAS CITY – A 48-year-old driver ran amuck and killed two barangay tanods or watchmen in Barangay Bilogo here on Sunday night, Dec. 11.

Police identified the victims as Ruben Torino, 52, and Robinson Torino, 50.

The victims tried to pacify the suspect, Reinaldo Barangas of Sitio Silangan, Barangay Dumantay, this city, who was running amuck in Purok Uno.

Barangas, instead of yielding, stabbed the victims. Ruben was able to draw his gun and shoot the suspect who fled towards Barangay Paharang East.

Police launched a manhunt against the suspect and the victims were taken to a hospital here where they were declared dead.

Recovered from the crime scene were a fired cartridge case of caliber 9mm and a caliber 9mm pistol.
