2 public schools bag awards for exemplary sustainable development initiatives
Two Philippine public high schools were conferred with the SEAMEO-Japan Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Award for their excellent sustainable development initiatives.
Out of the 272 participating schools, La Filipina National High School (LFNHS) in Tagum City bagged the 1st prize while Panabo City National High School (PCNHS) obtained the 3rd prize award.

According to the Department of Education (DepED) the awards were conferred during the recent 45th SEAMEO High Officials Meeting held on Nov. 29.
LFNHS was recognized for its project called Salida La Filipina – an initiative that helped the institution conduct and produce advocacy campaigns, supplemental media-based instructional materials, training, seminars, as well as other community engagements.
PCNHS, on the other hand, bagged the award for its “Bayanihan Caravan: Bridging the School and the Community through Partnerships” which focused on strengthening partnerships for “transformative education and community based literacy.”
“LFNHS, headed by Principal Dr. Dionisio Siglos and Teacher Coordinator Mr. Philip Bohol received a plaque recognition, prize money of USD $1,500, and a study tour to Japan,” said DepED in a press statement on Monday, Dec. 12.
“ PCNHS, guided by Principal Ms. Memia Infiesto and Teacher Coordinator Ms. Darna Tan, claimed a plaque of recognition and prize money of USD$500,” it added.
