2 cops wounded in Antique encounter


ILOILO CITY – Two policemen were wounded in an encounter with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in San Remegio town, Antique province on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 11.

The Police Regional Office-6 (Western Visayas) identified the wounded on Monday, Dec. 12, as Corporal Jomer Yamuyam and Patrolman Danmer dela Cruz of the Antique 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company (1st PMFC).

The Antique 1st PMFC and the San Remigio Municipal Police Station were responding to reports that a government vegetable plantation in Sitio Gahit, Barangay Aningalan was being vandalized by the NPA.

They encountered about 16 communist guerrillas led by Harold Mariano or “Ka Rod” in the area, resulting in a 10-minute firefight.

Two policemen were wounded and taken to the hospital.

Yamuyam is in stable condition and recuperating at Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital in the capital of San Jose de Buenavista.

De la Cruz will be transferred to Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Iloilo City for further treatment.

Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco, PRO-6 director, assured all necessary aid will be given to them.

“I instructed the police provincial director of Antique to give financial aid to our two wounded cops and their families,” Francisco said in a statement.
