Terrence Romeo slowly getting his game and confidence back
As much as he is finally getting his legs back after being sidelined by injuries, SMB guard Terrence Romeo is also starting to return to his old self – the ever flamboyant and feisty one.
That was exactly in full display as Romeo unloaded his best offensive showing yet for the Beermen since his return from an almost nine-month layoff.
Although still missing the array of offensive moves and dribbling display as he tries to get his feet wet in the competition, the shifty playmaker did his damage from distance with a 4-of-5 clip from deep to finish with 22 points in just his third game back.
“‘Yung game ko naman ginagawa ko lang yung best ko, kung ano man ang minutes na meron ako, na makakatulong ako sa team kung ano lang yung kaya ko munang gawin for now,” said Romeo.
“Kakabalik ko lang sa game wala ako gaanong tune up, diretso na sa competitive game na talaga so marami pa akong mga adjustment na dapat gawin pero mini-make sure ko na kapag nasa loob ako ng court may maitutulong ako sa team,” he added.
Not only his offensive form is slowly coming back but also his confidence and daring antics inside the court – evident with his exchange and staredown with Converge guard Alec Stockton all throughout the series.
Romeo, however, was quick to play down the sequence as he revealed that he and Alec were actually good pals and often play on pickup games.
“Lagi kami naglalaro niyan ni Alec sa mga pick up games lang so ganun talaga yung attitude ni Alec talagang matapang, ako din ganun rin pareho kaming di nagbaback down,” Romeo said.
He even offered sound advice to his fellow Tamaraw as he believes it’s only a matter of when Stockton will be able to showcase his full potential in the league
“Sinabihan ko siya na make sure kapag nag (mind games) siya kailangan nakakapag produce ka pa rin sa team, di pwedeng nakafocus ka sa pag (mind game) ng player tapos wala kang production sa team kailangan meron ka rin,” Romeo said.
“Pag kaya mong pagsabayin yun, magiging magaling ka na player sabi ko sa kanya and yung batang yun sobrang talented inaantay lang talaga na pumutok. Magaling yun si Alec,” he added.
