PPA vows to pursue digitalization for faster transactions, address corruption

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has vowed to aggressively implement digitalization of all its systems in a bid to expedite the transactions and address corruption in the agency.

PPA General Manager Jay Santiago said a good communication infrastructure promotes fast and corruption-free transactions and transparency and connectivity of projects and transactions across the country.

"This digitization is really our highest priority now at PPA to prevent occurrence of usual problems encountered by people at the port. Once it is fixed and everything is done online, prolonged waiting of passengers will be avoided and inconvenience at trips will be prevented," said Santiago.

"Let's revive the economy through digitalization, this is a big step for the continuous improvement of government services. We at PPA, are ready to streamline every transaction at ports and eliminate third-party operators or fixers," he added.

Santiago discussed the PPA's plan during a forum of the officials of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) headed by Secretary Jaime Bautista. It was also attended by officials of the aviation, maritime, railway, and land transportation sectors under the DOTr.

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) earlier allocated P12.47 billion for the digital transformation of all government transactions.
