Man dies, companion still missing in drowning incident in Pangasinan
MANGALDAN -- A man died while his companion went missing after they drowned in a river in Barangay Nibaliw here on Saturday, Dec. 10.
The Pangasinan Police identified the dead victim as Romnick Macam, 29, and Rodrigo Bautista, 48, who was still missing. Both are from Brgy. Macayug, Mangaldan, Pangasinan.
According to a witness, Joanne Quinto, around 6:20 p.m. the two male victims were seen approaching the Angalacan river and were allegedly under the influence of liquor.
Upon reaching the middle of the river, one of them drowned, then his companion drowned also in his futile attempt to save him.
The members of the search and rescue operation team from the Philippine National Police Mangaldan and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office were able to find Romnick Macam.
He was rushed to the nearest hospital by the Rural Health Unit Ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival at about 7:15 p.m.
The search and rescue teams of the PNP Mangaldan and MDRRM are still searching for the other victim.
