PAGASA lifts all wind signals as tropical depression Rosal moves away from PH landmass

Tropical cyclone wind signal number 1 has been lifted over Catanduanes as tropical depression Rosal moves away from the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday evening, Dec. 10.
Rosal was last spotted at a distance of 355 kilometers (km) east-northeast of Infanta, Quezon or 290 km east of Casiguran, Aurora in the PAGASA’s 11 p.m. bulletin.
It maintained its maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 55 kph, while moving northward at a speed of 10 kph.
PAGASA said Rosal may continue to bring moderate to occasional intense rains over Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, and Bicol Region on Sunday, Dec. 11.
Light to occasional heavy rains may also prevail over Aurora, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and the northern part of Western Visayas.
“Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are expected, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in localities with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA warned.
PAGASA said Rosal may continue to intensify while moving over the Philippine sea and reach the tropical storm category in the next 24 hours.
“However, due to the interaction with the northeast monsoon (amihan), the tropical cyclone may weaken into a tropical depression on Monday (Dec. 12) and become a remnant low on Tuesday (Dec. 13),” it added.
