One dead, 6 injured in separate road accidents in Negros

BACOLOD CITY -- A motorcycle rider died while six others were injured in separate accidents in Purok Rosas, Barangay Calumangan, Bago City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The fatality was identified as Phil Mark Francisco of Muntinlupa.

Staff Sgt. Ronald Javier, traffic investigator of Bago City Police Station, said that Francisco swerved to the opposite lane to avoid a pick-up truck that was making a u-turn.

However, Francisco failed to notice another approaching motorcycle ridden by two persons.

Javier said that Francisco collided with the other motorcycle.

Francisco, who was allegedly speeding, had no helmet. He was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.

The two riders on another motorcycle suffered minor injuries, while a family, including two children on board a pick-up truck was unharmed.

Meanwhile, an ambulance on its way to respond to the said accident crashed into a truck loaded with sugarcane.

Javier said the ambulance hit the rear part of the truck that was stuck in the traffic due to the collision.

Three rescuers and the ambulance driver were wounded, he added.

The pick-up truck driver and the truck driver were released from police custody on Thursday, following a settlement, Javier said.
