Marcos: We're getting close to P20/kilo of rice

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. claimed that he is getting closer to fulfilling his promise of bringing down the price of rice to P20 per kilo through the Department of Agriculture (DA)'s Kadiwa ng Pasko program.

Marcos said this as he led the opening of another Kadiwa ng Pasko Caravan in Quezon City on Thursday, Dec. 1.

In his speech, the President said the Kadiwa ng Pasko caravan is selling a kilogram of rice for P25 -- P5 higher than his promise of P20.

"Palapit na nang palapit tayo sa presyo na aking pinapangarap para sa bigas especially dahil nakakapag-ano na tayo — naipapagbili na natin ng P25 (We're getting closer to my dream for rice, especially because we're able to sell it for P25)," he said.

"Ubos kaagad ‘yan. Iyan sigurado ‘yan ang unang nauubos, eh. Kaya’t gagawin natin ito national program na (I think that's the first we sold out. That's why we'll make the Kadiwa a national program)," he added.

The Kadiwa ng Pasko caravan aims to promote and market the agri-fishery products of local farmers and fishers to help increase their income.

An initiative of the Office of the President (OP) and spearheaded by the DA, the caravan was formally launched on Nov. 16, 2022, where the President expressed commitment to open more outlets in different localities across the country.

It helps local farmers earn more through a direct farm-to-consumer food supply chain that eliminates several marketing layers while providing the local community with inexpensive, high-quality products to help them counter the effects of global inflation.

Among the participating sellers in Thursday's caravan come from the DA, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and National Food Authority (NFA).
