ILOILO CITY – Several towns in Iloilo province have been awarded for outstanding programs on solid waste management and forestry.

“We want to recognize local government units (LGUs) for their effective programs,” said Atty. Cesar Emmanuelle Buyco Jr., chief of the Iloilo Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (Iloilo PGENRO).
The towns of Ajuy and Bingawan under Mayor Jett Rojas and Mayor Mark Palabrica garnered the highest award for their excellent Ecological and Sustainable Solid Waste Management System (E+3S).
The municipalities of Barotac Viejo, Concepcion, Dingle, Dumangas, Janiuay, Leganes, Leon, Mina, Oton, Pavia, and Tigbauan were awarded for their ideal E+3S.
The towns of Batad, Lambunao, New Lucena, Santa Barbara, and Tubungan were feted for their very satisfactory E+3S.
These towns hurdled assessments by the Iloilo PGENRO and government agencies for their approach in managing solid waste, sanitation, environmental protection, and urban space usage.
The Iloilo PGENRO also awarded groups and individuals in the province for their Integrated Social Forestry (ISF) programs.
Two awardees are from San Joaquin town – the Good Sustainable Agroforestry Inc. (AGSA) of Barangay Sinogbuhan and the Cata-an Integrated Social Forestry Farmers Association (CISFFA) of Barangay Cata-an.
The other awardees were the Balunos Integrated Social Forestry Farmers Association (BISFFA) of Barangay Balunos, Anilao town and the Malayu-an Integrated Social Forestry Farmers Association (MISFFA) of Brgy. Malayu-an, Ajuy.
Awardees for the Performing ISF Beneficiary are Wenefredo Lallego of BISFFA, Jolly Laglag of MISFFA, and Shella Seminilla of Barangay Igbinangon, San Joaquin.
