'He's biased because I'm a lawyer': VP Sara dispels notion that she's PRRD's favorite child

While she rejected the notion that she is the favorite child of former president Rodrigo Duterte, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte admitted that her father may have a certain “bias” for her because she is a lawyer.

“Hindi naman. But sa tingin ko may (Not really. But in my opinion, he has a) bias sya for me dahil (because) I’m a lawyer,” she said in an interview with Pastor Apollo Quiboloy on SMNI on Thursday, Dec. 1.

She explained that this bias might come from her being a lawyer “kasi (because) Filipino parents somehow importante sa kanila kung (it’s important to them if) lawyer or doktor ang anak nila (if their children is a lawyer or doctor).”

Duterte, who took a detour from her dream of a being a doctor to become a lawyer, reminisced about how she grew up with her father taking her to the old Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) building in their hometown of Davao City where the former chief executive was a long-time mayor and she, too, served as local chief executive.

“I remember na kapag ayaw ko pumasok sa eskwelahan sinasabi niya sa akin, ‘o sige na, huwag ka na pumasok, sumama ka sa akin sa office ko.’ Ganun kadali (when I don’t want to go to school, he tells me ‘okay, don’t go to school, go with me to my office. It’s that easy),” she shared.

“I grew up na ine-explore ko yung (exploring the) old SP building. Diyan (There), Pastor, office pa yan ng (that’s the office of the) prosecutor. May mga (There are) courts diyan noon (there before),” Duterte recalled.
