Iloilo allows limited entry of poultry from bird flu-affected Capiz

ILOILO CITY – The provincial government of Iloilo has allowed the limited entry of certain poultry and poultry byproducts from Capiz province where the first bird flu case in Western Visayas region was recorded.

Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor issued an executive order on Wednesday, Dec. 7, amending an earlier order that temporarily banned the entry of poultry and poultry byproducts from neighboring Capiz.

Defensor’s latest order came after Capiz Gov. Fredenil Castro issued statements that it is not right to have a total ban as bird flu is an “isolated case.”

The Department of Agriculture (DA) had earlier reported that chickens from a poultry farm in Roxas City, the capital of Capiz, were infected with bird flu.

While a total ban was lifted, Defensor’s new executive order outlines certain requirements that must be complied to allow the entry of certain poultry and poultry byproducts to Iloilo.

The order listed requirements for the entry of “day-old chicks, hatching eggs, dressed chicken, processed and cooked poultry meat products, eggs (table eggs, salted eggs, quail eggs, embryonated eggs or ‘’balut’’), and poultry manure or dung.”
