Mayor Along signs child protection policy

Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan signed on Monday, Dec. 5, the Child Protection Policy of the Bahay Pag-Asa (BPA) to strengthen the city's commitment to safeguard the children.

“Nais nating pagtibayin ang mga polisiya ng Pamahalaang Lungsod upang maprotektahan at magabayan ang ating mga kabataan, lalong lalo na ang mga biktima ng pang-aabuso at mga naligaw ng landas (We want to strengthen the city government policies to protect and guide our youth, especially victims of abuse and those who have gone astray),” Malapitan said in his short address at the Caloocan City Hall.

BPA is a three-storey facility located at Torcillo St., Barangay 28, South Caloocan that caters to a total of 60 children in conflict with the law (CICLs) and children at risk (CARs), helping them develop positive change through series of programs and activities.

The city government said the policy was formed from the result of the comprehensive personnel training in BPA.

It includes guidelines for BPA services under the Republic Act No. 9344 or Juvenile Justice Welfare Act that covers prevention, rehabilitation, and reintegration of CICLs into society.

“Hangad din natin na mabigyan sila ng pantay na pagkakataon na magtagumpay sa buhay sa kabila ng kanilang mga pinagdaraanan (We also wish to give them an equal opportunity to succeed in life despite what they are going through),” the mayor added.

BPA also conducts rehabilitation of children who suffered abuse and maltreatment.

According to the local chief executive, the policy also seeks to highlight the "city government’s dedication to keeping children safe and providing them with the necessary support to succeed in life."

The policy signing was witnessed by representatives from BPA, members of civil society groups, and employees from the City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO).
