Couple, son, neighbor dead, eight injured in accident in Cagayan


Camp Marcelo A Adduru, Tuguegarao City -- A couple, their son and neighbor died while eight others were injured in an accident involving three vehicles along the National Highway, Ipil, Gonzaga, Cagayan on Saturday night, Dec. 3.

Police Regional Office 2 identified the victims as Donato and Marineth Barsatan of Brgy. Malumibit Sur, Flora and their seven-year old son (name withheld), and their neighbor identified as Velvet Geron.

Injured were Mencho Soriano, 22, Lean Lei Pascua, 26, both residents of Brgy Ipil, Gonzaga town; Reymark Puli, 24, Marvie Barsatan, 35, Liam Clyde Barsatan, 4, Mark Jansen Barsatan, 9, Xian Kurt Barsatan, 8, Guillian Joe Torres, 8, all residents of Brgy Baua, Gonzaga, Cagayan.

Based on a report of the Philippine National Police-Gonzaga, an SUV driven by Rodolfo Batin collided with two tricycles laden with passengers at around 11 p.m. on Dec. 3.

All passengers of both motorcycles were injured and were brought to the nearest hospital.

Unfortunately, four of them died while being treated.

Dead on arrival at the Alfonso Ponce Enrile Memorial District Hospital in Brgy Smart, Gonzaga were Donato and his neighbor Velvet.

Donato’s wife, Marineth, also died in the said hospital. Their son was transferred to another hospital but expired.

The SUV driver, 56, and a resident of Barangay Arellano, Quezon town, Isabela surrendered.

He is now facing a case of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries and damage to property.
