Proposed Barangay Skilled Workers Registry Act earns 2nd reading approval
House Bill (HB) 924 or the proposed Barangay Skilled Workers Registry Act has been approved by the House of Representatives on second reading.
Nueva Ecija 1st district Rep. Mikaela Suansing moved to approve the measure during the plenary session on Wednesday, Nov. 9.
The measure–introduced and sponsored by Pasig lone district Rep. Roman Romulo–mandates the creation of a Barangay Skilled Workers Registry.
Each barangay would have to create a public registry wherein skilled workers could opt to register their names, address, contact details, skills and nature of services offered, and professional credentials.
These details would then be made publicly accessible to the barangay for the sole purpose of making their services readily available.
HB 924 defines skilled workers as “persons who regularly perform jobs that cater to household needs which usually involve the use of physical strength or skills such as plumbers, carpenters, and electricians".
The measure needs to undergo approval on third reading before it can be transmitted to the Senate.
