NPA rebel nabbed in Negros Oriental

BACOLOD CITY – A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was arrested in Sitio Mabato, Barangay Talaon, La Libertad, Negros Oriental on Sunday, Nov. 6.

The Army identified the communist guerrilla as Tony ‘’Tonyo’’ Elod, a member of the Yunit Militia of Central Negros 1, Komiteng Rehiyon Cebu, Bohol, Negros, and Siquijor.

Elod was arrested in a joint police and military operation against fleeing NPA rebels after a series of encounters in Guihulngan City last week.

He yielded a .38 caliber revolver with six ammunition, a homemade shotgun with built-in magazine, and six rounds of 12-gauge shotgun ammunition.

Elod told the military that he was tasked by his fleeing comrades to monitor the location of government forces to enable them to evade safely and was entrusted with several firearms and ammunition they left.
