Marcos backs PH shooting team, vows support in int'l bid

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has expressed his full support to the Philippine delegation in its upcoming stint in an international shooting competition in Thailand.

During a courtesy call, Marcos assured the Filipino shooters that he will help them in several issues they are facing ahead of their campaign at the 2022 International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Handgun World Shoot XIX.

Among the issues raised by the Philippine team is the load restriction concerns, which Marcos vowed to resolve as he is also a gun enthusiast.

"I wish to express my full and continuing support to the association for such good advocacies you promote in our local and international sports scene," he said.

The President is behind the BBM (Bongbong Marcos) Cup, which has served as a venue for promoting gun handling and ownership.

The Philippine Practical Shooting Association (PPSA) requested an audience with the chief executive to present its 16 members who will be joining the competition on November 16 to December 3.

The Philippine team includes Aeron John Lanuza, Alfredo Catalan Jr., Arnel Ariate, Dominic John Santos, Edcel John Gino, Erin Mattea Micor, Evelyn Woods, Francis Paulo Paulino, Genesis Pible, Jerome Morales, Lenard Lopez, Marly Martir, Michael Tuazon, Raphael Castillo, Rolly Nathaniel Tecson, and Stefanie Kathrene Lee.

The IPSC is the world's largest shooting sport association and the biggest and oldest group within practical shooting.

The PPSA, meanwhile, serves as the Philippine association for practical shooting under the IPSC.

Also present during the courtesy call were Ryan Remigio, PPSA Chairman, Edwin Lim, PPSA President and IPSC Regional Director and other PPSA officers.

The handgun world shoot competition has been earlier postponed due to restrictions amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
