DPWH completes bailey bridge over collapsed Wawa Bridge in Pangasinan
The Department of Public Works and Highways has reopened the Carlos P. Romulo Bridge or Wawa Bridge on the Camiling-Wawa-Bayambang-Malasiqui-Santa Barbara Road in Barangay Wawa, Bayambang, Pangasinan after a bailey bridge was completed recently.
However, only light vehicles are allowed cross the bridge, said Esperanza Tinaza, public information officer of the DPWH-Ilocos (Region 1).
Tinaza said the bailey bridge is a one-way traffic bridge with a five-ton load limit.
“Vehicles passing the bridge should be 20 meters apart. In order to notify drivers and pedestrians, warning signs were also placed along the route,” Tinaza added.
The Wawa Bridge collapsed on Oct. 20 due to overloading and the temporary bridge was built in two weeks by the DPWH Region 1-Equipment Management Division and DPWH-Pangasinan Fourth District Engineering Office.
Trucks, buses, and other vehicles weighing more than five tons were advised to use alternate routes such as the Bayambang-San Carlos-Aguilar Road via Bocboc Bridge in Mangatarem, Pangasinan.
