Romualdez, Marcos lead aid distribution in Leyte on Yolanda anniversary

House Speaker Martin Romualdez, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and other ranking solons led on Tuesday, Nov. 8 an aid distribution ceremony in Palo, Leyte in commemoration of the 9th anniversary of the super typhoon "Yolanda" tragedy.

Marcos, Romualdez, Tingog Party-list Reps. Yedda Marie Romualdez and Jude Acidre led the ceremonial turnover of equipment and emergency vehicles from various government agencies at the Leyte Academic Center in Palo--one of the locations devastated by the typhoon in 2013.

“The helping hand extended by our national government could not have come at a more opportune time for our province has been visited recently by successive storms that made life even more difficult for many of our people," Speaker Romualdez said during the ceremony.

About 100 laptops from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) were distributed to beneficiaries of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Tech4ED program.

The Department of Health (DOH) turned over 20 ambulances to Leyte’s local government units (LGUs).

Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture (DA) distributed P5,000 to 1,200 farmers each as part of the Rice Farmer Financial Assistance Program.

Disinfection trucks were also given the provincial government of Southern Leyte and to the Municipality of Allen in Northern Samar.

From the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) came cash assistance to some 300 beneficiaries of the agency’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS program.

Lastly, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) gave out P5,250 each to 200 citizens under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.

“We are fortunate and truly grateful that the current administration is not blind to our people’s plight and has seen fit to help us,” said Speaker Romualdez, who represents Leyte’s 1st district.
