PH military must modernize, respond to eventualities — PBBM
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has expressed that the institution he commands, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), must be modernized to meet necessary preparations amid the current geo-political tensions.
While the Philippines wants to live in peace, Marcos said it is “crucial” for the AFP to undergo modernization in case of any eventualities.
Such is the reason why the government strives to “strengthen our country’s capabilities in territorial defense, counter-terrorism, and internal security,” he said during the capability demonstration and turnover of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) assets in Basa Air Base in Pampanga.

"Updated defense systems will fortify the nation’s capabilities to provide humanitarian assistance and respond immediately in times of calamities and disasters," he added.
For government and business operations to remain unhampered, the President said there is a need to protect all the country’s critical infrastructure.
That could be done again by modernizing the armed forces, he added.
The President stressed that the Philippines must remain equipped and empowered in whatever capacity it can to counter roadblocks posed by terrorism and external security threats brought by geopolitical tensions.
Marcos then commended the Philippine Air Force for the successful acquisition of the new Ground Based Air Defense Systems and C-295 Medium Lift Aircraft, adding the previous delivery of the FA-50PH aircraft would make a difference in uplifting the Air Force’s capabilities to promote security.
He expressed his gratitude to the governments of Israel and Spain for helping the country bolster its defense systems, which he said, signifies strong defense relations.
