Sandro vows to fight for this local project's inclusion in 2023 national budget

Senior Deputy Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos has vowed to fight for the earmarking of funds for the construction of a local viaduct in the proposed 2023 national budget.

In a press briefing in his district office over the weekend, Marcos was asked whether or not the Patapat viaduct project had already been funded.

"Hindi pa, tignan natin. Ipaglalaban ko (Not yet, we'll see. I'll fight for it)," the presidential son answered.

"The Bicam is in December , so hopefully makikipag-usap ako sa ating mga kasama sa Senado na kung pwede idagdag yung viaduct dahil mapakalaking bagay niyan (so hopefully I'll be able to speak to my colleagues in the Senate to ask if the viaduct project could be included since it would be a big help)," Marcos said.

The neophyte solon was referring to the Bicameral Conference Committee hearings on the 2023 General Appropriations Bill (GAB). During these hearings, chosen members of the House and Senate will seek to harmonize the conflicting provisions of their respective versions of the budget measure.

Marcos bared in an earlier press briefing that an "additional viaduct" would be built at the end of Patapat Bridge in Pagudpod, Ilocos Norte. He said this would give locals an access point even if there's a landslide.

He said the project might take "three to four years" to complete.

"Katulad sa sinabi ko, walang short-term solution, yan lang talaga ang pwedeng gawin para maayos na (Like what I said, there's no short-term solution, that's the only thing we can do to fix the situation)," he said of the viaduct project.

The 28-year-old solon gave this parting shot to his constituents, who he obviously cares for very much: "I hope to be of service to all my Kakailian (Northern brethren) continuously, and so long as I am here as the congressman, itutuloy po namin ang lahat ng ating tulong sa kanila (we will continue to give all of our assistance to them).
