A 4.2-magnitude earthquake jolted Ilocos Norte on Monday evening, Nov. 7, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs said the quake struck 13 kilometers (km) northeast of Nueva Era, Ilocos Norte at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.

It said the earthquake was felt at Intensity IV (moderately strong) in Nueva Era, Ilocos Norte; Intensity III (weak) in Danglas and Lagayan in Abra and Marcos and Banna in Ilocos Norte; and Intensity II in Dingras, Ilocos Norte.

Phivolcs’ instruments also recorded the tremor at Intensity I in Batac City, Ilocos Norte.

The earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

However, Phivolcs said it does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
