There is a need for the Philippines to continue discussing with the Netherlands and other European Union (EU) countries on the issue of a possible amnesty to undocumented Filipino workers.

‘’I noticed that European governments have different policies on undocumented migrants. Spain and Italy have amnesty programs,’’ Senator Imee Marcos, chairperson of the Senate foreign relations committee, said.

‘’Other countries, including the Netherlands, do not, but they should consider this because it makes sense. These countries need foreign workers anyway, its good to know who and where these foreign workers are, etc.,’’ she stressed.

‘’Filipinos have contributed so much to these countries. So we should continue to discuss with the Netherlands and other countries this issue,’’ she added.

This and other matters were discussed between Marcos and EU officials during her recent visit to Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris. She also answered questions on national issues upon her arrival.

Asked if she supports the Federal-parliamentary form of Government. Imee replied: ‘’My father advocated the French form of parliamentary government and in fact instituted the first Philippine parliament with Cesar Virata as Prime Minister.’’

‘’We can consider that. Preside Duterte tried but later on was concerned that some regions, such as BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao), may not be ready because of their economic standing,’’ she pointed out.
